Take the Fight to the Enemy

 By Jim Simpson

Seems the big boys are coming around to the point of view expressed by this blogger in an article posted in the wee hours Tuesday a.m. Remember you read it first here at American Daughter! In a conference at the Heritage Foundation later the same day, Tom DeLay predicted Hillary Clinton would win the White House. He also stated that Barack Obama would be her running mate. See the article about it at NewsMax.com, here. Since I’m scooping the big boys without any of their help, perhaps they’ll take a little time to consider some serious advice from this humble servant.

DeLay has started his own web-based movement, Grassroots Action and Information Network, or GAIN. I considered joining this group, because DeLay is the most effective, committed and courageous conservative of any consequence out there today, whatever you think about his alleged “ethics” problems.

However, it costs $52.00 to “join.” I find that extremely annoying. Why should I pay to volunteer? It is difficult enough to make the time and effort as it is right now. And while I would pay $52 many times over if I really believed I could get the man’s ear on a regular basis, as his web promotion implies, the practical reality is that I would have as much input as the many thousands of other members he needs in order to make it a sustainable operation.

DeLay claims that his goal is to:

…reach out to the diverse coalition of conservative groups and bring them together to rival the coalition built by liberals (emphasis mine). Prior to the 1994 Republican takeover of Congress, DeLay said he employed a similar strategy that the GOP has gradually abandoned.

This is a great concept, however his organization is dissimilar to Leftist organizations in that the Left finds clever ways to get adequate funding so they can fully concentrate on the task at hand without forcing their members to pony up “membership fees” in addition to working countless hours for free. In fact, because of these funding sources, many of these “volunteers” do not even work for free. They get paid! In that sense, few conservative organizations “rival the coalition built by liberals” because none of them, save perhaps the NRA, have the money.

Leftist groups receive huge donations from Hollywood, tycoons like George Soros, and in the case of the ACLU and probably many others below the radar screen, even subsidization from the federal government. Most large foundations have been captured by the Left, and provide very deep pockets for all kinds of leftist activism. The Legal Services Corporation, a federal agency with offices throughout the U.S., is essentially a federally funded nationwide partisan advocacy organization for radical leftist lawyers. Great!

The point is, the Left succeeds largely because their money problems were handled first. People who join their organizations are stakeholders in the truest sense of the word. In the heirarchy of needs, the primary ones, survival and security, are taken care of with a salary, however menial. The secondary ones, implied in the organization’s goals, also animate these employees and even many volunteers, for they see themselves as part and parcel of the movement they are scheming to impose on the rest of us. Because of the Left’s superior ability to communicate their message, these stakeholders also frequently have the satisfaction of seeing their support, financial and otherwise, bearing visible fruit in the public arena, either with news stories, law suits or legislation. Finally, they have a unified vision. It is a diseased vision, as far as I’m concerned, the evidence for which can be physically counted in the corpses of the world’s gulags and killing fields. But it is a vision just the same, and they all share it.

We, on the other hand, are stakeholders in amorphous concepts like freedom, “limited” government, democracy and prosperity, concepts which often mean different things to different people. And while these are noble concepts, and while we recognize they are crucial to our continued existence as a nation, given the Left’s superior organizational skills, they are drifting further and further from our grasp. We only have our hope, and right now, it is a thin thread of hope at that.

Organizations that rely on the constant support of a huge number of small donors, most of whom have full-time jobs, limited resources and scarce free time, usually must spend so much time just raising enough to keep going that they find little time to actually prosecute their stated mission. As an occasional donor to such groups, I find it exhausting to be constantly barraged with an endless array of solicitation letters, e-mails and phone calls from tiny groups wanting $25, $50, $100 or more, while I am meanwhile working independently till 1 or 2 am doing my volunteer part, knowing full well that if I donate some of my very limited funds to them, the money will most likely just disappear in a black hole of insignificance. So not only am I being constantly reminded of our sorry state of affairs, my limited ammunition is being squandered on Quixotic causes with little hope of success. This knowledge, in and of itself, is a psychological burden not suffered by the Left.

If we want to successfully fight these entrenched, highly organized and well funded groups, we need to create organizations and institutions that are similar–organizations not perennially hobbled by lack of funds, whose members are constantly forced to financially support them as well as man the barricades. George Washington’s Continental Army was perenially plagued with shortages and lack of funding. As it was, soldiers were often volunteers in the truest sense of the word: they didn’t get paid. Can you imagine the outcome if they had had to pay a membership fee too?

We need to become stakeholders with a vested immediate interest in the success of the organization. We need angels like George Soros. We need tax exempts like MoveOn.org, with the organizational skills, dedicated paid staff, and experienced, hardnosed partisan leaders. Examine the join up form on the MoveOn website. It costs nothing to join and you can easily volunteer with a click of your mouse. You can donate if you want, but it is not necessary.

Right now we are the victims of our own individualist philosophy. For this fight we need to start thinking like collectivists. Tom DeLay is one of the best partisan fighters out there. But his organization is destined to remain at the margins if it is to rely on the constant financial support of its members. He would be well advised to use his knowledge, connections and name recognition to get independent funding instead. As it is, he begins to look like just another of the countless political has beens, who start “nonprofit” organizations as a means of getting a meal ticket and staying in the game. I know he’s not, but it looks that way.

If he is truly faithful to his stated goal, he should start an organization that really does rival those of the Left. It should reward, not penalize, membership. And the rest of us should seek to come together in a network devoted to taking the fight directly to the enemy, rather than exhausting ourselves chipping away at the margins in single issue advocacy groups who rarely accomplish anything. Perhaps then we can move out from behind the eight ball, where we always find ourselves when dealing with these seditious, destructive, but very effective Leftist organizations. Our future depends on it.

Don't Talk With Syria/Iran

By Jim Simpson

Dialogue with Iran and Syria, as has now been officially proposed with today's release of the Iraq Study Group Report, is insane. These two countries are perhaps the greatest long-term promoters of international terrorism in the world (excluding of course, the illustrious Soviet Union, which started, developed and has fueled the whole thing all along). An article this morning from the pages of the seminal Wall Street Journal, originally a piece in the ever-insightful American Spectator, brings much needed insight into public debate on this issue.

Since time immemorial, the liberal establishment has relentlessly promoted the idea that “dialogue” is the cure-all in foreign relations. The truth is that this solution has always favored our enemies. Since G.W. Bush took office the Left has pelted him with criticism for “going it alone,” engaging in bi-lateral talks when they think multilateral talks are the answer and vice versa. Seems he can do nothing right as far as the foreign policy illuminati are concerned. Now they are at it again, this time disingenuously promoting the idea that the Bush administration has, until now, stubbornly refused to speak with these Axis of Evil regimes. But as the Wall Street Journal reveals:

The premise--pushed by Democratic politicians and others--is absolutely false. The people pushing this, among them Jimmy Carter and Zbigniew Brzezinski, and Sen. Chuck Hagel, seem intent on sandbagging President Bush into negotiating from a position of weakness over some form of "grand bargain" with some of our most deadly enemies. But the fact is that plenty of engagement has already been taking place… Since the September 11 attacks, Washington has held discussions with Tehran and Damascus on a wide array of issues, including matters such as Afghanistan; al Qaeda's international terror networks; Iraq; Lebanon and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Now I don’t know if Hagel (R-NE) is a deliberate saboteur, or just an inveterate idiot. Probably somewhere in between. The unfortunate fact is that many members of Congress and the Senate are only peripherally knowledgeable about most these issues, usually acting as mere mouthpieces for the various and sundry interest groups which keep them in office. But Hagel has always struck me as particularly ignorant, so no surprise that he is one of the vocal leaders of this idea, sure to weaken both U.S. defensive posture as well as cement the growing perception of Republicans as the party of Stupid. He was an infantry squad leader in Vietnam, which tells me he had courage at one time (unlike the fake-medal-bedecked "war hero," John Murtha). But his website biography suggests a man who has fallen in love with himself, a fate all to common in Washington, where every sort of sycophant is willing to treat you like a god, as long as your godliness follows their playbook. Sycophants always have an angle.

However, as the Journal article correctly explains:

The real issue today is that the Bush administration, which has been repeatedly burned in recent years when it tried to engage these governments, prefers discretion and holding lower-level talks.
But:

These regimes insist on holding well-publicized summits that yield them P.R. windfalls without forcing them to substantively change their policies.
Liberal foreign policy favors what I call the non-learning model. Another word for this is insanity, the popular definition for which being bantied about these days, although applied interestingly enough to the Bush administration, is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. If you recall, Bush put a stop to twelve years of such insanity by invading Iraq. Now, however, it is back in spades. And the results are there for anyone willing to look. Again quoting the article:

The fact is that, since the Carter's presidency, U.S. administrations of both parties have tried unsuccessfully to persuade these governments to end their support for terrorism and their efforts to sabotage Washington's efforts to facilitate peace between Israel and its Arab neighbors.
For example:

In 1982 and 1983, veteran U.S. diplomats Philip Habib and Morris Draper conducted months of arduous shuttle diplomacy in an effort to end the violence in Lebanon--a civil war that began in 1975, followed by Israel's 1982 military campaign to uproot Palestinian terrorist groups based there.
But:

Syria did everything it could to sabotage efforts to stabilize Lebanon: It likely facilitated the September 1982 assassination of Lebanese President Bashir Gemayel and undoubtedly assisted the rise of the Iranian-backed Shi'ite terror organization Hezbollah, whose "credits" included the October 23, 1983 bombing of the U.S. Marine barracks in Beirut which killed 241 U.S. servicemen.
Former Secretary of State James Baker, now leader of the REALPOLITIK Iraq Survey Group, takes credit for negotiating Syria’s support of the 1991 Iraq invasion. At the time, many of us knew that would cause problems down the road. And it did, giving Syria a wholly underserved legitimacy, a 10 year respite from U.S. hostility, and many other bennies, for the paltry contribution of one or two virtually useless and definitely untrustworthy brigades of Syrian combat troops during Desert Storm.

Brilliant.

From a recent article in American Thinker: “Baker's style of ‘wheeling—dealing’ is to insult allies and coddle terrorists.” Now Baker's group would like us to talk with these regimes, despite the fact that Syria was almost certainly behind the November assassination of another Lebanese politician, Pierre Gemayel, nephew of the 1982 assassinated Bashir, nevermind last year's assassination of Lebanese PM, Rafik Hariri. Meanwhile, Iran's certifiable whackjob President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been sponsoring Iran's efforts to destabilize Iraq, including shipments of deadly IED's, certainly responsible for American deaths. Has the Iraq Study Group been studying anything other than their navels?

I guess it's okay to ignore conventional wisdom too, when you're trying to reimpose other, wiser, conventional wisdom. For, according to the politically correct 9-11 commission, "There is strong evidence that Iran facilitated the transit of al Qaeda members into and out of Afghanistan before 9/11, and that some of these were future 9/11 hijackers."

Oh, so what! Old news! Boring!

There is also evidence, though no one likes to talk about it, that since 9-11, Iran is housing or has housed Osama Bin Laden himself. Read about that little gem, here, and here.

In any event, this rebirth of the old status quo foreign policy imbecilethink, which brought us to 9-11 in the first place, is yet another disastrous consequence of the November elections. They are coming out of the woodwork, like so many termites we thought were finally exterminated in 2000, but no such luck. When American voters this November repudiated Republicans' lackluster performance, they committed the fatal error of assuming the bad was the worst. Newsflash: it can always get worse.

And it has. We didn’t trade in tired, self-serving Republican functionaries to get “fresh ideas” as the Democrats laughably suggest. We fired them only to bring back the same infinitely more corrupt, self-serving and dangerously anti-American crowd of Leftist flunkies that we decisively fired in 1994! Unfortunately, they're baaaack, and either due to a self-serving desire to be loved by our Leftist press (which he is), or some other covert agenda, Republican James Baker deserves to be lumped in with this crowd.

I don’t despise liberals so much for their simplistic, ill-informed, nihilistic arrogance, as many of us, myself included, experienced such a phase in our lives. But for us it was only a phase, part of growing up. What I find absolutely unacceptable is the fact that through deliberate deception and cowardly, intellectually dishonest, underhanded media manipulation, these willfully ignorant, relentlessly immature deviants are again forcing this insanity on the rest of us. And we the innocent, we the patriots, we the defenders of this fine country and all it stands for, along with our parents, children, spouses, friends and neighbors, will be forced to suffer along with them when the disastrous consequences of their foolish policies finally come home to roost.

Whether we believe it or not, whether we like it or not, indeed, whether we even know it or not, the United States of America is the last hope for a world soon to descend into an irretrievable bloodbath of totalitarian monstrosity. Alas, the time is near. This is the clarion call. Now is the time to fight, and fight with all our heart.

For starters we can only hope President Bush doesn’t listen to the non-solutions just proposed by this group of senile Washington groupthink retreads.

Must Read - Censorship Begins!

By Jim Simpson

Simply unbelievable. On October 27th a “bipartisan” pair of U.S. Senators, West Virginia Democrat Jay Rockefeller (trustfund baby of Rockefeller’s oil empire), and Olympia (RINO - Maine) Snowe, sent out a letter to ExxonMobil chastising them for supporting politically incorrect global warming research. It is literally a threat letter, demanding that they defund groups like the Competitive Enterprise Insititute, who apparently have provided a thumb in the dyke against the massive assault of the global warming industry. Who in God's green earth do these people think they are? This is blatant censorship! It would be funny if it were not so ominous. Here’s a quote:
ExxonMobil and its partners in denial have manufactured controversy, sown doubt, and impeded progress with strategies all-too reminiscent of those used by the tobacco industry for so many years.
Tobacco industry?” We all know what happened to them. Does that not sound like a threat to you? Here’s another:
Mainstream media outlets, attacked for being biased, help lend credence to skeptics' views, regardless of their scientific integrity, by giving them relatively equal standing with legitimate scientists.
This is simply delusional! I want to know what “mainstream” media outlet has done anything but attack global warming skeptics. Research groups have lost funding, scientists have been attacked and marginalized, and genuine, scientific work questioning the global warming absolutists is routinely ridiculed daily in the press by journalists, Hollywood, the entire Democrat party, a few really stupid republicans, and a virtual army of other self-anointed “scientists”. It has taken tremendous courage for the few real scientists willing to question the junk science used by global warming advocates to mount even a token challenge. The global warming advocates by the way, have a lot more to gain (or lose) than the skeptics.

The letter uses inflammatory, accusatory language like “information laundering,” “bogus ‘scientific’ debate” and even names Tech Central Station as co-conspirator with “a small number of professional skeptics working through scientific-sounding organizations to funnel their viewpoints through non-peer-reviewed websites.”

…funnel their viewpoints through non-peer-reviewed websites” indeed! Doesn’t that make them sound like some kind of sordid conspiracy, diabolically sneaking their underhanded propaganda into the legitimate stream of scientific debate? But if you believe the letter, you must conclude that there is no debate! It is a settled issue according to these esteemed Senators. You can read the full text of the letter here, and the Wall Street Journal’s deliciously scathing response to it here. What would we do without the Journal to bring issues like this to light?

The “peer-review” process has been so corrupted of late by self-serving organizations seeking large federal grants for overtly politicized issues, that the entire scientific community has lost credibility. Formerly professional journals like Scientific American have become mere platforms for leftist ideological extremists, and their “peer-reviewed” articles are often no more than ad hominem attacks on those few dissenting scientists willing to challenge their federally funded PC propaganda.

Consider what has happened to Greenpeace founder Patrick Moore, who has correctly observed that: “many environmentalists have taken a sharp turn to the ultra-left, ushering in a mood of extremism and intolerance.” For this he has been branded a traitor by the environmental movement and was the subject of a concerted attack led by Scientific American when he dared publish a rebuttal by Bjorn Lomborg, author of The Skeptical Environmentalist, who was the initial target of the attack.

Environmental hysterics similar to those of the global warming messiahs were delivered in 1974, when Time magazine published a breathless article predicting the cataclysmic onset of global cooling. Read that hilarious chicken little polemic here. Here’s a quote or two (emphases are all mine):
However widely the weather varies from place to place and time to time, when meteorologists take an average of temperatures around the globe they find that the atmosphere has been growing gradually cooler over the past three decades. The trend shows no indication of reversing. Climatological Cassandras are becoming increasingly apprehensive, for the weather aberrations they are studying may be the harbinger of another ice age.
Telltale signs are everywhere—from the unexpected persistence and thickness of pack ice in the waters around Iceland to the southward migration of a warmth-loving creature like the armadillo from the Midwest. Since the 1940s the mean global temperature has dropped about 2.7 degrees Farenheit.
Can these people make up their minds? Have the global warming sages looked into northward migration of the armadillo lately? This stuff is simply mindblowing! Time finally recanted their story and admitted they might have been wrong just this year! I doubt if they really thought they were wrong—Time could never be wrong, just intertemporally challenged— and I’m sure they hated admitting it. We can thank the new media for exposing it too, else they doubtless would have kept hypocritically mum. But once exposed, admitting the mistake was necessary to clear the decks for their advocacy of the latest environmentalist fad: global warming.

Do we want to spend the next thirty years and countless billions on research into something our intellectual elite finally fess up in 2040 was bogus all along?

When are these people going to get it? Answer: NEVER. So when is our political system going to produce someone capable and courageous enough to put an end to this nihilistic lunacy?! THAT’S UP TO US, AND IT’S TIME TO GET STARTED, NOW!

This is a scary, ominous letter. The entire global warming debate is a cover for radicals who want to sabotage the U.S. economy while doing little if anything to help “global warming,” if it even exists. The greatest fossil fuel polluters, China, Russia, and most of the developing world are exempt from Kyoto Treaty protocols, which is what they want imposed on the U.S. Meanwhile, we have made great strides in reducing air pollution, and will continue to do so. Imposition of Kyoto’s regulatory regime, on the other hand, would toss the U.S. into an economic depression of unprecedented magnitude, not only wrecking our economy, but in so doing dry up the source of federal funding we already generously provide to study this issue.

I return to my assertion of November 9: this election was a disaster of epic proportions! The ugly truth has already begun to rear its head. We have two years to to avert the final calamity. We need to get started now! Call these people and tell them: NO CENSORSHIP! Better yet, print out and jam their fax machines with endless copies of this or the WSJ article. Here's their info:
